MC4 crimping tool - needed?!

Hi,

Could I ask if we can get away without buying the specialist MC4 crimping tool? It's £200 at the moment and I'm not sure how necessary it is..

Sun-e MC4 and MC3 Professional Ratchet Crimp Tool try here if it needs to be crimped then the right tool must be used

Try Ebay as well. Tool IS needed unless you buy pre made leads. Standard crimps don't work as the connector will arc.

MC4 connector is used as DC connector of the inverter, and also used on junction box. is there any other usage in the PV system?

Test-Meter; does that MC4 crimper also do MC3s? I notice you can get MC3s which don't need the push tool - another good saving right there!

So, just for info I ended up buying the Sun-E crimping tool as it reckons it can crimp MC3's and MC4's.
