At a PIR on a 1980's proteus board there are a mix of B's C,s and 1 D type no heavy start up loads or florries just an staff accomodation block, I have changed them all to b types and sorted out on 16A on a cooker feed, owner moaned a bit " but it's been like that for years" my reply was "do you do the lottery 'cos your a lucky sod" anyway would you guys have changed them too,

If the Zs was OK for the protection device then most likely not as I would not have given the customer extra costs, I would have advised them that changing them would be better, especially if there is no RCD protection on the installation, is there RCD protection?

Was most likely something that was knocking about in the van at the time and used, as in the 80's things were a little more relaxed than today.

the D might need changing-i reserve them for trafo's and welders generally

i would have left the C's if Zs ok

you might be unlucky and get a callback now with one of the B's tripping!!

disconnection times not met, no RCD, Change MFT setting to B and Zs within limits, However I as a matter of course do a Zs at a socket or other relevant point and a visual assesment before I take the cover of the CU gives me a feel for the overall condition, I just wondered if any one else would have changed them as a matter of course and at £2 a go not reallya cost issue

if the disconnection times could not be met with the C and D types, then , yes, you were right to change them for B types.

Only if I had a glut of B breakers and wanted some C & D for another job ................no joking.

Again to be honest, if i had a couple knocking about I may have changed them as a goodwill thing and let the customer know I had, but as you say not conforming to disconnection times and no RCDs then you quite rightly changed them, or coded them a 2 and given the customer an unsatisfactory report.
