I wasted peoples time asking questions about probs I was having with my megger
1710. By way of atoning for this I'm sharing the 1710 guidance note Mk2 I got from megger today.

The problem (for me anyway) is all the 1700 series testers share the same instructions, this one is specific.
hope it helps someone. :D

how they have advanced in recent years. my MFT has only 1 instruction. it's a label above the display that reads " this way up"

just meant of the two methods described for RCD testing, one involves a bit of plodding about.
And at the risk of copping an earful, I've been taught never to open an accessory and probe if there's a socket testing option available. So on an upstairs Ring final I'd be loosing weight.

Chances are I'll look back at some of the rubbish I'm writing today and be embarrassed, right now, I can only speak from my current knowledge.

The only time you test an RCD at the socket is if it is an RCD socket.
RCD tests should be carried out at the outgoing terminals of an RCD with the load disconnected.

Even if you did test from a socket you only have to push the button once then walk to the RCD and stand there resetting it each time it trips.

the 1710 hasn't got auto rcd, that's the point I was making, I remember your views on RCD testing from a thread some months ago. I do pay attention :D

I think cos it's ÂŁ475+plus vat they put that limitation in to make people cough up the extra for the 1720.
It's win win for me then isn't it ?
I use the correct test procedure I don't have to do all the leg work.
