Morning folks, I'm in a bit of a Dilema, can't decide between the megger 1720 MFT or the Fluke 1654B. I've always used megger & I do like them but when they go faulty they're pricey to fix. I'm sure the Fluke is also pricey to fix! Just now I've got the Megger 1502/2MFT but its been through the wars & always going faulty on me. The big seller with the megger is its got the Rcds Auto test! I mainly do domestic with a bit of commercial, at the end if this month I've got a big hotel EICR to carry out! Any thoughts folks.

Cheers

megger 1552/3. solid reliable. and it's don't look like it's been made in a digger factory (JCB).

the difference between hi an lo current loop tests can be staggering. i have a LT7 which, when used on a non-RCD socket circuit yesterday, gave 0.54ohms on hi. and 1.4 ohms on lo. this discrepancy may not be so large on all testers. in fact my MFT readings are quite close.

Ive got a 1654B and am very happy with it, it also does the RCD auto test which from your initial post, sounded like you thought it didn't do that from how you favoured the megger. Also does high trip, ramp test, phase sequence and Ra test amongst all the others. It's very easy to use as well, so long ad you know how to drive a digger.

I think they are all quite similar, it's like saying do you buy a Citroen or a Peugeot etc, if you like Fluke, buy Fluke, if you like Megger buy Megger. I have quite a bit of Fluke kit which is why when I bought my ELCM I went straight or the Fluke 360, because if I bought the Dilog or whatever, I would have said it's not a Fluke. I could go on and on, you probably only buy Nike trainers, not Adidas as you are a Nike person.

That is very cool. It would be the end user software that would make that the absolute king.
