Hello all brought a megger 1730 recently sometimes wishing i had gone down the fluke road.Could someone with experience of using both just give me their thoughts thanks

Nothing wrong with the Megger 1730, just so long as you don't want completely accurate results on the 2-wire no trip setting. Why are you sometimes wishing you had bought a Fuke?
Lots of posts on this subject if you do a forum search.

The former issues with the Megger 17xx series MFTs have all been sorted since firmware update 2.01, apart from the 2 wire No-trip loop test which still gives variable results even with firmware update 2.05, however it's getting better with each update, and you don't need to use it anyway because the 3 wire No-trip loop test works fine.
Make sure your MFT has firmware 2.01 or a later version otherwise you will experience some strange behaviour from your Megger. Your MFT is within the 3 year warranty period, so if the firmware needs updating complain to Megger's Technical Department and they should arrange for this to be done free of charge.

I would like to see some kind of online upgrade, as I personally can't afford to be without my test gear for a week. I have 2.01 and am quite happy atm, but obviously I would like the latest firmware at some point.
Alternatively, it would be nice if megger would pick up your MFT and leave you a calibrated unit for use while yours is sorted, a bit like a courtesy car.

For that reason and because I killed a 1730 earlier this year I now have a 2nd unit so I always have a meter to use

I still prefer Megger to Fluke. OP - if you have a problem, contact Megger, they are very helpful. Regrettably the 2 wire HI loop test is still a bit hit & miss :(

I've decided that all future updates will have to wait until the MFT is in for annual calibration, 'killing two birds with one stone', that way hopefully the iterative process will have progressed to a conclusion and a fully working 2 wire loop function.

Well done. Leads sound a bit high btw mine are 0.07 when warmed up. Rcd uplift - I either calculate Zs, or use the kitcher trick. See
