A customer has had some bespoke metal fence posts made up. They're keen now to have lamps hanging from them.

The posts need bonding of some sort but is it enough to provide a connection to the earth of the lighting circuit or do they need connecting seperately to main earth somehow?

Presuming these fence posts are outside which means they are beyond the equipotential zone and actually in the earth and therefore at zero potential, as is the ground around them, I am not sure that bonding would have any purpose as it will not prevent an introduction of earth potential into the area at all.

If i have read correctly, they are resin-set anchors, where the holes can be drilled close to edges,or in poor substrates, and the anchors, either formed or merely lengths of stud, are fixed in position using a two part epoxy resin.

This method has been used for many years, even before the concept of resin, where the "setting" medium used, ranged from molten lead,to liquid grouts.

Here,Hilti have been a market leader in this method, allowing the specification of such fixings,to be detailed, thus giving confidence in their use for structures like fire-escapes,roof mounted access rails, etc.

Another remedial building related use, which resin bonded fixings has proved perfect for,is retro fitted cavity wall ties.

Anyone remember cavities? ...they were an 18th century leap forward,in maintaining a buildings weatherproof integrity, which insulation injection, and building regs full-fill suggestion, has spent 30 years reversing...:6:

I was just wondering, how you were thinking of doing that :)

That's easy,by using my newly patented product....copper razor-barb...Want security,with a low impedance?...use Pegs spiky bond,a "Good ole' down-to-earth deterrent"

......with the added benefit of a built in lightning protection system free of charge! (I thought I would add that as you've seemed to have missed it from your sales pitch:) )
