Hi Guys

Just some advice required. I understand meter tails ideally at 3m from meter but is it possible to have meter tails 10-15m from the meter?

Came across a job where there's no real option but to have the consumer unit 10-15m from meter cut out.

If it is possible is additional protection required at meter?

Thanks

The usual approach to satisfy everyone is to put the tails cable in as protected (typically using 3 core 25mm SWA, or usual singles in trunking) and feed it from a switched-fuse.

That way you can isolate the long cables as part of the "installation", and the fuse is under your control and (hopefully) chosen to be adequate for 5s disconnection for the end-of-tails Zs value.

It is one of those things that technically the DNO fuse might be enough (depending on Zs) for fault & overload protection so only an isolation switch is needed, but you ought to get the DNO's agreement on that. Hmmm...

Would the switched fuse be local to the meter or 10-15m away local to the consumer unit? Thanks for your reply
