Hi guys, Looked at a job yesterday, for a rewire.

The CU will need to be moved as when customer had her Gas installed they kindly put the gas meter 1inch away from the CU.
Alarming to me, i told her that it needs to be moved to a more appropriate place to meet requiremnets. Her Electric meter is on the same wall but far away enough to meet requirements of being away from the Gas meter and Gas pipe work. But no room elsewhere to move the CU on same wall.

She was happy as she has a slight disability so if a breaker trips then rather than climbing into cupboard, all she has to do is open door and do what she needs to do (in a sence)

Anyway thats the insight of the concern.
I just want conformation to my idea that, the tails will end up being just over 3 meters from the Meter, so will have to have a isolation switch.
But can i run the metre tails and the main Earth (CPC) in plastic trunking, big enough to have room for requirments. It may either run from top of meter over in corners on ceiling in cupboard or along floor, wall, then up to CU.
can this be done, or does it need to be something more stronger for protection etc etc...

Thanks guys....

surface mounted plastic is fine... very common!

" It may either run from top of meter over in corners on ceiling in cupboard or along floor, wall, then up to CU."

i would go with up wall and down method!!! keep it away from bashing and trashing!!!

if the gas has recently been installed Id get on them and tell them to get it shifted surly its easier to shift a cackky wee dod of pipe then move loads of cables(at consumers expence) when it was missinstalled by them

I was woken from sleep@ 10am after a night shift guys digging test holes outdie my house found the gas pipe recently installed on the underside of the top coat of tar I went ballistik at top gas guy who came out never trust a gasman nearly as dodgy as Plasters

Hey guys thanks for your quick replys

Durham Sparke - Thanks for your info, think i will go that way. Just wanted to check that it was ok, dont get a lot of jobs where your in that situation, but seems to all work out good..
so thanks again

Mogga - In all fairness i dont think the gas guys had much choice for where it could go. But the least they could of done was to refuse to installed untill CU situation was sorted.
And your comment never trust a gasman, I MAKE YOU RIGHT HAHA.. I had a few run in's with gas guys haha...
But hey least us sparlys have a Conscience.
