This has probably been asked before but want to make sure I am on the right track with this.

Am working at a house which has been re-wired ( apparently, but who puts 4mm radials in now adays ). The split load CU has 25mm tails to the meter. From the meter to the cutout its wired in what looks like 6mm cloth covers cable.

Also there appears to be an old cutout with fuse wire in both the L and N conductors, which is also unsealed.

My customer has only just purchased the property, so do I have to contact Electricity North West or his electricity supplier to sort this out as I cant sign off on the electrical work for the loft conversion with the tails in this condition.

Also should this work be FOC ?

Get the DNO to change the head and tails. Plenty of people run 4mm radials. Where the tails enter the CCU It doesn't look it is IP4X.

Its hard to tell from the pics if that is fuse wire in the head but the fuse in the line conductor appears to be to the left of the head.

I know there is nothing wrong with a 4mm radial, but they had put 3 in upstairs 1 to each bedroom, but only put 1 socket in the room ! However there were 2 ring mains down stairs.

No it is on blocks behind so not hanging, just the way the photo's have been taken. Yeah I had thought about the storage heater, but all cable is new colours so put in during the re-wire !

I don't understand people who rewire houses and put one socket in each room, it's not exactly in line with building regs etc and number of sockets, if someone wanted me to only put one in each room is walk away.

My thoughts exactly. Its now got 5 sockets in each room as a minimum. I will contact Electricity North West tomorrow and get them to sort it. I just dont know how you can put a new CU in and not question the existing tails being in that condition.

Why on earth did you open the cutout? Even the properly trained DNO operatives aren't allowed to open them live without a very very good reason and you just open it up to take pictures?
Have you got any idea how badly you could have been injured if that porcelain insulator had dislodged something else when it fell down and caused a flashover?

I couldn't agree more!
