Hello everyone:
I have just started to working in a project of energy efficiency in buildings and I always see references to a monitoring proyect and metering proyect separately but in my opinion these two are the same thing, you need a metering project to have points with measures, and we need measures to develop in the next step (monitoring project) to work about these measures to obtain more information like efficiency improvement, energy performance, ect. I don´t know if there are another difference between this two. On the other hand I need a guidelines of metering and monitoring. If someone could help me I would appreciate.
Thanks you very much and regards.

Hi,

Iam not sure if this helps or hinders but here goes.

Last year I was involved in building some switchgear for a largish project, and in the specs were monitoring and metering for energy usage for both lighting and power at all sub dist. boards.

There was main metering at the intake/s, this was the total usage in kwH and Kvars etc. for the whole building/s, there was further sub metering/monitoring for the lighting at various sub boards and circuits, and again sub metering/and monitoring seperately for the power circuits.

There ended up being a ridiculous amount metering/CT's (IMO!) throughout all of the switch gear and all of this was networked back via a profi-bus or MOD bus to a computer somewhere.
In the specs was references to building regs L2, Iam not sure of the significance of this as I was just building the panels (panel wiring), and had no say in the project design or management.

Ps. some of the monitoring information was also to be linked to the BMS system.

Effective energy management can deliver significant cost savings and reduce your carbon footprint. The ability to meter and monitor energy consumption against specific targets is a fundamental component of this.

AMRs are also playing an increasingly important role in fulfilling carbon trading scheme obligations (e.g. EU Emissions Trading Scheme and the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme) and other Corporate Social Responsibility commitments.

I share the solution that I found here, in case would be usefull for anyone.

The metering is to only gather a measure and monitoring you follow different parameters (temperature, lighting, etc..)
