I know this is not associated with PV but I really needgood advice and from what I have been reading you’re the guys to ask.
If the provider of electric installs a faulty meter andfor 2 years does not realize the fault is there, can the electric company claimloss of revenue after the contract is over.
This is a large sum of money owned.

Thanks J

The general rule under the Limitation Act 1980 is that they have six years to claim a debt and have it enforced by the courts. After that, although the debt still exists, it is not enforceable. I have in the back of my mind that for consumers, electricity companies cannot or will not as a matter of policy claim back further than 12 months any unbilled electricity. Even though a contract may be over, it does not stop there being an unpaid bill from when it was running.

An electricity customer has a reasonable expectation that any meter used to measure their consumption is suitable for its purpose. This is legally required under article 24 (1) a of The Electricity Safety, Quality and Continuity Regulations 2002.

The meter operator should have a paperwork audit trail that shows what the CT ratio should have been set to when the meter was frist installed. This may have disappeared if the original install was in the dim and distant past. How does the supplier know that the wrong ratio was used? If the premises have changed hands then presumably it has been checked by the new occupiers meter operator?

I never received a electric bill for 6 years we only had to pay the last 12 months so no they cannot enfocre the debt in the court system. Any judge would throw the case out

They can only ask you to work out how much electric you used in the last 12 months (if you have been their that time)

I kept on asking them why we did not get a bill.

They setup the account 9 times but it kept on cancelling the account the following week electronically

Stand your ground you have done nothing wrong here

Kind regards

Puddy

The electric company was not using the multiplier when reading meter.
So they have credit account then issued new invoices for the sum of ÂŁ24000 for electric used 2 years ago
