Metering

I usually install a second kWh meter for recording generated energy, but the customer would like to know when their house demands additional energy from the grid. Until smart metering is rolled out how is this achieved?

It isn't.

Could watch the meter (if its an old spinning one) and when its going in the correct direction then power from the grid is being used!

Need to record at least two current flows in real time and then it needs some maths and logic, hence web based solutions.
