I usually install a second kWh meter for recording generated energy, but the customer would like to know when their house demands additional energy from the grid. Until smart metering is rolled out how is this achieved?

@solgen, see the threads on monitors,

Need to record at least two current flows in real time and then it needs some maths and logic, hence web based solutions.
