Hi all, I am encountering a few problems using my Metrel Easitest to check out RCD protected spurs; when I use the meter on 'auto-RCD' it comes up with '0-V' or 'PE' with flashing warning triangle and the full 6-step auto test is not carried out. The leads should be OK as other tests are done using the same leads.
Can anyone help me interpret the meaning of the messages and how to get around the problem?
Many thanks!

You likely need to make a better connection to the circuit under test.
I've not used that instrument, but my Megger 1553 will not start the test unless it sees all 3 leads connected.
If you're doing a lot of these, it may be worth making up a test adaptor lead, eg a trailing 13-amp socket with a short length of cable that you can connect to the circuit temporarily so as you can use the 13-Amp plug test lead.

Simon.

Hi flipadee, have a Metrel Instaltest myself and as stated above will not initiate RCD auto test unless all 3 test probes are connected correctly. Can be a pain at times when trying to test at FCUs due to the fact you need both hands to hold probes. Think Metrel do a probe with integral test button, other than that try to get the bulldog clip probe onto the cpc connection. If all else fails remove accessory (safely isolated of course) before testing live.

Regards WA
