Hi all hope someone can give me an answer to this , to measure Ze at the origin which setting on the meter do i use is it loop L-E psc or do i use trip lock im very familar with the rest of the meter ive got my assessment later on this month so i wanna put a good show on.

im sure on the meteral... you double up N-E leads and do L-E psc, trip lock is used when getting ZS from circuits with RCD fitted...!! (stops them tripping out)

Hi all,
I have got a 61557 and the test i tried today was phase to Neutral for PSCC got to check my leads out tomorrow but all it came up with was >1000Mohms? I need more of an accurate measuremant for the test result starting to think i am going barmy tried P with N,E together and all leads seperate any ideas before i boot the thing across the floor.

This is my first consumer unit and it got me the Ze figure no problems and it works on ring final circuit but not where i need it from consumer unit.
Any ideas please thanks Ian.

Ze on my Metrel (MI3000) is a three lead test. The "No Trip" function is to be used only when you're testing for Zs when a circuit is RCD protected. Once the test is carried out it also displays the PEFC but this figure cannot be used as Ze is performed with the main earthing disconnected and PEFC with the main earthing connected to include parallel paths so effectively I perform the same test one with the earth out (for Ze) and one with earth in (for PEFC). And yes you want to use the L-E setting, L-L is only used for PSCC measurement. Cheers

Use the help button on the meter for the connection configurations for each test it may require a few presses to get to the configuration you need and will return you to the test screen once you have seen them all

Hi thanks for advice but there is no help button on this one and all i get is 0V and i can get 0.45Hz.
The meter don't for some reason like the idea of doing the PSC L-N test on the consumer unit, but the unit can be put straght into a socket with supplied leaad and works on all tests where i don't have a RCD in place as yet in my house.

Any more sugestions please i have looked at the manual and it does mention a comando test lead?
The last thing at the minute i want is to have to buy another tester just for this test, as i read it this tester in some shape or form will do it?

Many thanks Ian.

Use the lead that comes with the test meter. Crocodile clip on the green to earth your left with the blue and black leads separate take the tips off the end of the probes this helps to get a proper reading i know they are there for safety but a lot of times ive had to remove them to get 230v showing on the meter before i hit the test button . Hope this helps

I will try that one i think i covered nearly every aspect of leads but could get no reading. It's easy with the ring main just plug the mft in to the socket and away you go, but some tests are diferant to the next with this machine.

Could nick i mean borrow the tester we have at work the big brother to the 61557 getting used to that in a comercial premises isn't to bad but comes to your own meter, the only one i could aford at the time of purchase from ebay but sailed through caliberation no prob's.

Many thanks i will get there in the end i have my supply to try combinations out on at the week end.

Looking forward to getting this work done and then joining a registered scheme all ready isured for PAT testing.

Once again many thanks for info. Ian
