O

Octopus

All,

I've just had my Metrel MI3304 calibrated by a local test house. Whilst it has been calibrated and I've got a certificate the display warns me the unit needs calibrating.

Having spoken to Metrel it will stay there for ever unless I pay them to turn it off!

Has anyone got the required code or knowledge that would enable me to reset the "warning". (its a bit like the service warning light on a car or van)

Thanks

It works OK, I'm trying to get rid of the "calibration required" message!

Electro-tech is trying to tell you that you should take your tester back to where you had it calibrated, for them to reset the "calibration required" message!! They will (or should) have all the necessary input codes for all the different manufactures of test kits that they service or calibrate.... Have you not contacted them at all in this instance?? I would have thought that would be the very first call you made!!!

stick a label over it

Metrel tech support tried to worry me saying that an "inspector on site may accuse me of not having calibrated equipment" - and my answer was that I keep my calibration certificate in my business file!

The local test outfit stated they weren't allowed to have the code!

Metrel stated they won't let anyone else have the code!

This is becoming a increasing problem with electrical and PAT test gear. This is an attempt by the manufacturers to lock the purchaser into their approved service and calibration agents. It's is dressed up as assuring the reliability of the instrument, however, we know it's really another screw the sparky tax. They see IET getting 60+ sheets for the BGB and the Part P bodies fee extortion and think we'll have our pint of blood too. We as purchasers of test equipment need to make this our first question to manufacturers/dealers - "Does this MFT/PAT have a calibration/service lockout and/or nag message?" - and if their answer is yes, we say no-thanks and goodbye.:cuss:
