fadeing disply got a metrel 31000 replaced re chargeable batterys and still the same problem only got calibrated recently any ideas

Odd one, have you tried operating the backlit display and seeing if the screen blanks, this would indicate (since the batteries should be OK) a loose connection to the screen supply, unfortunately not sure how to fix such a fault. I assume the rest of the meter functions correctly?

yes meter is good had it 5 or 6 years might send it to metrel depending on cost lol

Could you video it doing thing, from powering on, maybe time. And post it some were so we can see
I think might of seen some thing like what you speak of but on a calculator. But I think that was water damage
