Hi all,

i have a job i am currently doing in an older building that has 2 x MICC supplies running into it. the old distribution boards were metal so the MICC gland terminated straight into the board housing provided a connection with the earth bar as that too was connected to the board housing. i am now installing MK plastic distribution boards and want some ideas of the best way to get the MICC into this style board, also getting earth in? any ideas would be good, ive got a few but not sure what kinda Ze they will give me.

Is there any reason why you can't install a new metal cu?

If it has to be plastic then you will have to make off the micc into a metal adaptable box or similar into which you could fit henleys or din rail connectors. Lug the cpc to the frame of box and take into cu. If done correctly this should not effect Ze.

You could do it via a piece of metal trunking or through an adaptable box, that way you could brass nut bolt washer and using a star washer as well and extend an earth conductor via compression crimp and cable.

Depending on the size of the gland you could also utilize a SWA earth locknut, but if the MICC is imperial then you may have problems with that.

I may be teaching my granny to suck eggs here, but have you done a lot of work on MICC?

You will find that like SWA when you isolate the supply for the MICC after about 1/2 an hour the cable will stiffen up and become really hard to work with. Also there is a good chance once you start to playing about with the cable the terminations may deteriorate and you may need to re terminate the ends

thank you both for the advice. yeah sintra that was my idea i will deff go with it. i was thinking instead of using henley i was thinking of using 16mm butt connector lugs that i have to hand, what is the best way of sheathing them and covering the connections?
@malcom i like the tip of the swa gland so thanks for that. yeah i have worked a lot with SWA and quite a bit with micc, the heat thing is so true...i will have all windows open to try and get as much heat in there too! and de-energize just before moving. haha
