Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced clamp meter that can measure milli amps.
I have a customer who's rcd trips every so often. So I was wanting to test for earth leakage.
Thanks

Dialog, wouldn't leave home without mine. In fact, It's clipped to my tool bag and secured in one of the pockets.

I believe one of the forum sponsors does them ;)

:thumbsup

What I like about them is when you get THAT situation IE I went to a job the other day, circuit was tripping the RCD. House had been sold so proved how much current was being drawn through use of m7y clamp meter and was able to drop it onto a 20A radial minus the faulty leg (last socket back to CU)

Mine has paid for itself already.

When you can show clients figures on the digital display and explain max ccc of cables the you are in more of a chance than someone who is explaining matters verbally.

:thumbsup

You can get milliamp measurements my passing the same conductor several times around the clamp jaws. Divide the reading by the number of 'turns' If your clamp meter reads Amps, then 10 turns will give a 1 amp reading for 100ma current. To get a 100:1 reading (1A scale reading for 10 mA current) You can make up a removable coil of 100 turns of copper enamelled wire, (well insulated of course) but you will need to connect it in series with the circuit under test.

And what would you do about the clamp meters resolution?? ....Your suggestion will still give inaccurate mA values i'm afraid!!
