Hi all,

I have been asked to help out with a community project that's a bit outside my normal domestic remit, advice please.

Part of the job is to light a pathway down the side of a church. Permission has been sought and received to mount the lights on the side of the church external wall providing the cable is colour co-ordinated with the church facade.

Firstly can you get colour matched sheathing (or at least non standard colours) in mineral insulated, and if so where? Personally i hate the stuff and have only ever made it off during my C&G a good while back, so would prefer to use FP or something similar.
I know Prysmian do FP in non standard colours and even colour match at a cost and with a mimimum order quantity, but i have yet to find out either (waiting for a response from them).

Has anyone any experience of non standard sheath colours or can recommend another type of cable?
Push comes to shove (i.e. when they find out the cost of a bespoke colour) i think it may end up being white FP, painted, but i usually get some good info on the forum so thought i would ask.

Also any recommendations on light fittings would be much appreciated. Path is probably 30m long, I figured 4 off spotlights at intervals along the path. Halogen floods, CFL low energy floods, led floods or similar. PIRs at either end of the pathway.
The people running the project are very into low energy fittings and we havent been given any rules as to what fittings can be used so the world is my lobster on the fittings front.

best regards to all
Chris

We used 'stone' coloured MICC cable on a large external lighting project in Middlesbrough, it looked great and obviously lasts 'forever'.

Maybe consider some LED fittings as a nod to the energy saving ethos and also think about any anti vandal measures that may be necessary.

Two things, .... MICC will out last what ever light fittings you choose, it will also out last you and probably your children too. How long do you honestly think FP 200 will last externally?? You can get MICC sheathed in quite a few standard colours as well as non standard colours but that will cost you!!!

The other thing, if your not experienced in MICC cable terminations, or it's dressing techniques, then pass this job on to someone that does, or it will end up looking like a pig's ear of a job. A couple of terminations during your collage training times, isn't going to help this installation, or the fact you don't like the stuff...
