minimum cable depths

Hi all,

I am pricing for providing 2 x 16a radial circuits for elec gates, one thing I am a bit stuck on is the acceptable deptch for the supply cable. I know there isn't a standard depth however I was airing on the side of caution and will propably go for and SWA within ducting with danger tape over the top at about 300mm depth.

I am going way over the top or can anyone add their views?

Hi are you referring to the depth in the ground? if so i was always told about 18 inches 457.2mm

In the 17th Edition exam this came up and IIRC it 600mm.

the minimum depth is actually 500mm deep with the tape at 150mm below the surface. hope this helps

Hi, As a general rule Buried cables should be a minimum of 500mm with marker tape 150mm below the surface. 522.8.10 from red book states you can use conduit, duct or SWA or all of them as long as there is mechanical protection.

600mm is in areas of agricultural premises and caravan locations where vehicles and Mobile machines are operated,
I have always been told to install it at 600mm.
