alright chaps,
just a quick one, a few lads who are self employed that I know have told me that notifiable work goes through NIC or chosen body, but minor works ie utilising existing wiring or adding onto a circuit and EICR's are just kept on file and are covered by public liability insurance , are they right or is this cobblers? thanks lads Ben

Although the scheme you are with may want to see any minor works/eicr forms that you fill out as you would be using certs provided by them... I.e the schemes logo could be plastered all over them

I hope the self employed people you mention realise that any notifiable works also is covered by their public liability insurance. The scheme only covers it in the event that the electrician who installed it goes out of business.

so as long as I stay in business I could notify work to LABC and not join a scheme? crazy if you could! !

If and I say IF you can convince LABC that you have the necessary qualifications and competence, its claimed that some will allow you to notify directly. I've not tried this as I border on about 5 different areas and logistically it would be a nightmare.
