Minor works or not

Evening chaps
Been working for myself for a while now, all going well so far, until this morning, been changing light fittings for customers in domestic installations and issuing minor works cert as long as everything ok Ie all tests and bonding present, etc this morning found house not to have any visible bonding to water main, so told customer that this would have to be sorted as I always tell people on my estimate that estimate staands if pre tests & checks are ok before installation commences. Her retort was well my previous electrician didnt mention this or issue certificates when doing work.(problem is shes just had new bathroom and kitchen fitted and not an RCD insight). So I took the option to decline the job, has she had no interest in installing my bonding, so hence my query is two fold . Do you all issue minor works certs for light fitting changes and secondly if you do what would you have done in this situation

MWC is the way to go in this situation imho even though some would argue it's like for like. As far as the bonding is concerned you can't force her to have the work done but maybe you could point her in the direction of this forum where she could be told the reasons why it is necessary, assuming she is on the net of course

I don't always issue MWCs when doing little jobs like replacing fittings and accessories. Especialy if the customer isn't interested.
However, in a situation like you describe, I would issue a MWC and make a note of the defect on the Certificate.
That way, if the customer has a piece of paper stating that there is a defect, or in some cases a number of defects, they can think about it, and perhaps change their mind at a later date.
If you don't do the work of changing the light fitting and issue a MWC, the customer might just go back to whoever installed the kitchen, and they'll probablly tell them there is nothing wrong, and you were just making things up.

A MWC is nto required on a like for like replacement.

In such situations a MWC with a note about the "issues" you see would be the best course of action. Cover your bottom.

Thanks for the reply's i get general consesus is to do job then put issues on minor works cert, when filling cert You put X against adequateness of bonding would you then fill in method of protection as ADS even though bonding is not present.

My thinking is like for like replacement no cert and verbal or written advise to the customer that their installation needs upgrading......personally I would not carry out work which requires a cert if bonding was not to be made adequate,a cert implies the installation/alteration complies with bs7671...that cant be the case if no bonding is present.

Maybe tel..but bonding is all about PD value reduction yes?...and lets not forget here also that most (not all i might add) but most non RCD protected dis boards will be a BS3036 type with the characteristics involved with rewirerables...a bit on the strong side..........
