Out of interest how do any of you price your minor works cert into a job.. do you price same as norm test and inspect, price per circuit/overall test ..or do just do a free one with works carried out......cos there alot of people who arenteven bothering doing these certs as they feel they will lose a job due to extra costs to clients.....

any thoughts....as time is money

It doesn't take that long to test and complete a certificate and if it meant losing a job i'd do it for nothing every time.

I price for the time i am on a job, cert or no cert, time is money when work is involved.

I would price it in with job and not break it down into a cost, just allow a bit on top for it,paperwork, notify etc, time to do paperwork,it all adds up

Yeah i pretty much go down the price it into time on the job/paperwork route....BUT what about if you went into FULL INSTALL TEST.....outside minor works......would you guys do the same as you have spoke of. ?
Just trying to get a picture because i see how PIR's can be different and rightly so.....but rest wanted to get a bit of an idea

If it was an EIC then this would deffo be priced into the job. But as i said the Minor Works Cert literally takes minutes so i would rather do it for free than lose a job.

Yes you are right, in these days....And i guess when client see's you doing this it can only help the word get around your efficient and being a fair electrician....which could mean more work.....

Out of interest, dont wanna go too far off thread...im looking around and cant see details of minor testing scope....
basically got job....lady wants loads sockets replaced, just faces no boxes..plus lightings changed...No cable (at present aware) involved.......What tests would you do? STILL...
Contin of pro conducts/ring final/insul resis/pol loop imped/pfc.........AND IS It on WHOLE house??
i mean she has got a HUGE house like 5 bed/garage/conserv/ BIG kitchen..the works and she only only 15 sockets/ 3 lights fitted......

There is no requirement to give any certificates when replacing equiptment of this sort,as this would fall under the diy catagory, surprised she has got you in to do it,but also i would commend her for doing so,getting a qualified sparks to change them, well done her, anyway as said certs not needed, unless you spot something amiss,ie no cpc etc, check bonding and consumer unit, take u a minute or 2,in a way she is getting a free visual check by someone who is qualified to give advice, and if you see anything that does not meet 17th edition regs, you could always recommend that it is done, might get an extra on the job, just for handing out your expert advice,if things seem amiss, you could always offer to do a periodic at a charge.

Yes certainly. she seems like very nice honest lady who genuinley feels its a job for a qualified electrician....
#fair play....
Although im still alittle niether here nor there as regards to doing cert. i mean i have to do a test (minor), so may as well fill out the form im thinking if she is that way in thinking..it would reflect good in light of getting more work from her...

thanks
