Does anyone know how to/if you can spoof the operating handles on Mitsubishi panels with the circuit breaker still live?

Thanks

Moulded case circuit breaker panels fitted with interlock rotary isolators or as Mitsubishi call them "operating handles" generally have a spoof on the isolator/handle so you can access the switchgear inside without isolating the circuit. I've worked extensively with Schneider and ABB switchgear of which both have this feature. Schneider's is fairly easy, there's just a hole in the side you can poke a bit of wire into and Bob's your Auntie after the operation. ABB is a bit more difficult, first you have to drill a 3mm hole in one side of the isolator base to reveal the button and then repeat the same operation as the Schneider.

Other types you can deconstruct the handle from the outside to get access but that really is a pain.

I'm wandering if anyone on here has experience of working with Mitsubishi switchgear and can help.

I've been working on getting to the UK technical team but thus far I've been met only with answering machines

I presume you can't just turn off the isolator on the door, open the door and then get some pliers on the isolator shaft to turn it back on?

Haha no unfortunately not. That would be too easy. We do a lot of surveys on panels with critical data systems etc attatched to them where isolating the supply is not an option. Unfortunately this is one of those times.

Again this kind of work has been quite routine for us in the past, predominantly with Schneider gear and the occasional ABB panel.

We've been asked to quote for a job and this piece of information is a majour factor in how long the job will take.

You're looking for what is called a defeatable isolator handle.

Got any part numbers? Most mitsubishi stuff doesn't come with the feature.

Unfortunately not, I believe there has been some kind of contractor/client dispute so there are no drawings or specs available. I've just been informed the panels are about 2 years old and that's all I've got at the moment.

We mostly have defetable isolators. How ever some older kit does not have them, this is especially prevalent on non IP2X panels. I will try to dig out some photos of a few of our panel isolators that have exploded when re-energised. Fortunatly this happened under normal circumstances with the door closed so no one was hurt (save underwear changing).
