Discuss MK essential range , anyone tried it ? in the Electrical Tools and Products area at ElectriciansForums.net

I keep looking at these and wonder if they are an existing chinese product rebranded, but a quick search hasn't shown up anything. If it is an entirely new product it must have cost a fortune in tooling/moulds etc. That would be a waste of money! There don't seem to be many any positive comments about them on that YouTube video!

Could well be a cheap load of gear they picked up from somewhere that went out of business or perhaps brought out a foreign manufacture that was in trouble.
cant see why Mk have bothered with this tat thou , seems silly when you already have a white plastic on the market in logic plus

We have recently second fix some apartments in this range (Designers spec). Personally, I didn’t rate them. I prefer the click mode range. Well priced. And there chrome wear is also my prefered choice. ‘Deco’

I think they're made in China. I saw most of JW’s review and must admit I won’t be going near them. Don’t like the look. I still use the logic range though.

Thread resurrection....

MK Essentials range was widely slated for a number of good reasons, but MK are having another go with a limited range of new budget accessories under the name MK Base. Not seen any of these new accessories in the flesh, but they appear to be substantially better than Essentials. Slimline profile that isn't much different from the Logic range and all sockets with DP switching. Certainly seem as though they're worth a look.

I think I will wait for JW or similar to review them first. Yes, I could buy some and try, but I suspect they are crap and will stick to the MK Logic ones, at least a number of them are made in the UK, rest in Malaysia (not China).

I'm still quite surprised MK were trying to deliberately damage their reputation by making the awful essential range. I did see the base range advertised recently but haven't seen them in the flesh. Can't be worse than the recent change to the Crabtree 13a fused spurs where they have made the small terminals even smaller!!! At least Crabtree have had the decency to remove the 'Electrical Excellence' printing from their new packaging boxes.

what's wrong with LAP? better than MK and less than half the price . where's my tin hat?

I actually don’t mind LAP , when I was doing loads of rewires I used volex and deta quite a lot then moved over to Maribo or what ever they were called which was then the screwfix basic range
Think i was paying about a quid for a double socket

Maribo is the little jelly sweets.?

my brand of choice usually comes down to

A. What I’ve got in stock
B. What I can get as a complete job…. Wholesalers might have sockets etc in one brand but not the matching cooker switch for example.
C. What looks right when fitted together. I think it’s one of the MK ranges that have nice shaped, fairly slim sockets, but sw/fs outlets stick out the wall by 5mm more. Looks daft if fitted side by side
