Hello chaps just wondering what everyones opinions are on using mk fittings. Ive been using mk fittings last week for the first time as we usually use wylex and i found them a real pain to fit. None of my drivers seemed to be a good fit and the spurs only have enough space to fit a pincer driver into them. Nothing bigger. As i say maybe im just not used to them but i was curious to hear other peoples views on mk stuff
cheers

I think I see where your coming from theyre not the greatest for terminations. Some of the 'cheaper' brands I find are better for terminating obviously aestectically(sp) they're not as good.

I love to fit MK stuff. Lots of space in the terminations and when doing a fuse spur youdont have to worry about turning it upside down to get some of the cables in, they're all level with eachother.

The only downside is that it is expensive in comparison to cheaper brands

This is the problem I have with MK too. They have a rounded, long side and a short, squat side to the holes that the termination screws live in, so you get the driver in the 'long' way and it fits, but then you turn the driver and it snaps the brittle-as-hell plastic when ik gets to the narrow part. Rubbish.

You get come back on the fused spurs because people remove the fuse and then getting the fuse holder back in is difficult,it takes a lot of pressure while turning the screw....Lost count of the times I've stabbed my hand backing out the screws on the plateswitches, the screw driver has to have a perfect end or you struggle, those screws must have been tightened with a torque wrench.....and as for those gaskets on the masterseal range.......dont get me started.....they have been deliberately designed to drive sparkies to an early grave.

Mk is better made and better looking than the cheaper makes. Maybe it the the old saying ,, a bad trades man blames his tools,, but maybe if you buying cheaper sockets then u might be buying cheaper screwdrivers. Only an opinion.

I'm using my new irozolas screwdrivers not exactly cheap drivers at 35 quid a set. Not a bad tradesman blaming his tools more a good tradesman blaming the materials . Can anyone recommend a particular make of screwdriver that works well with mk as I've got 30 houses to fit out using mk fittings

You may find that getting a cheapo driver set, they type where you get one driver with all different ends, you may find that one of them ends will fit, that's what I normally revert to when using MK fittings and such, but you've gotta get the right set.

With MK spurs, I generally pre tighten the terminal screws then loosen them off, otherwise sometimes they just spin and spin until they get on the threads, which is a right pain if your trying to work in a tight space or under kitchen wall units.:(
