been having to update some cu`s recently, makes me feeling no good replacing a metal enclosure unit, equipped with still working gear, just because no rcd and not a modern standard of bus bars (that is what prevents me from getting rcbo in there)
. the kind holding the mcbs with a nice visible m4 bolt.
. connection on the incomers on the old units made from 2 screws on each terminal. compare it to modern standard, one bog standard screw with the head getting knackered after you tight it properly.
and then you see melted incomers when someone was lucky or burned units when less lucky.

plus some plastic knobs used to close modern units instead of proper bolts and threads.

old unit is still there after a 1st fix, due to be gone in couple of weeks replaced with a fiddly mk or bg.

customers are happy to spend 5k on a kitchen, ÂŁ1k on some floors but tight when i mention a proper ÂŁ120 unit, just because there are ones ÂŁ50 in the shed.

friday rant over :)
