If you add modules to an existing system can/do you amend the existing mcs certificate or do you have issue a new one for the additional modules. I don't want to spend ÂŁ15 if I don't have to.

i dont know for gospal, but i suspect you issue a new cert for what is effectivly a new system allthough its an extension. dont you have to have another gen meter?

New one, just for the additional modules, it's an extension to an existing system.

Additonal moduless will also require their own inverter and generation meter, you can't simply up the power of the existing system, and claim all at the old rate. Same with 're-powering'

As you are adding to an existing system, you'll also need a G83 Stage 2 application approved by the DNO before you can connect.

Agree a new MCS certificate as it is most likely a change to the TIC/DNC and therefore an extension under the legislation.

However I believe the system does allow you connect the new panels into an existing inverter and meter (assuming the inverter had the capacity). The meter reading would then get pro-rata allocated between the old and new rates based on the kWp of old and new panels. The disadvantage used to be that the FIT contract would stop after the original 25 years so you would lose a year or 2 of FIT income on the new panels. As the new panels will now only get income for 20 years that does not apply unless the extension is greater than 5 years from the original, which will not happen for a while.

@BruceB you could well be correct wrt inverter and meter. Best thing to do would be to speak to the proposed FIT provider.
