Hi all, I'm looking for a device that can monitor how long a boiler (Oil fired) is on for. I'm doubting there is any specific device on the market, and if there is it may be at some cost...At the moment all I can think of is bodging an electrical clock (with date display) to run when the burner is running. Any suggestions?

Thanks for that.

Looking at the prices thing its going to have to be something a little self made, rather than a professional tool.

im sure RS will have something,im jumping to the conclusion its for fault finding rather than monitoring..

It's for monitoring actually - looking to get my own heating running in a better manner first and foremost. Then perhaps move along and get others heating running better too:rockon2:

A relay in series in one of the live conductors, switching the power to a 13A socket. Plug in timer in socket, set to 12 midnight @ midnight...have a shufty 24 hours later.

If you want detailed logging, Lascar to a range of fairly cheap USB data loggers. I have one of their temperature loggers that you can leave somewhere for any time up to several months (depending on sample interval selected) and then plug into your pc to retrieve the data. Their software will do you a nice graph of temperature over time.

They do an event monitor which appears to be suitable for connecting to volt-free relay contacts. Look for EL-USB-5 on www.lascarelectronics.com
About ÂŁ50.

Edit:
Actually, I'm not sure that EL-USB-5 can be made to record both rising and falling edge events in the same log, so maybe not suitable.
