Hi
Quick one on what you all think to this?...
Got offered to do 4 days work (Sat-Tues) as a Mate on an Office Lighting refit, putting in Modular fittings. Have been asked to assist with connecting up. I have been employed mainly in domestic, but terminating is terminating is it not?...
Anyhow once wages got discussed I'm saying No. Guy wants to offer £6 P/H...

Now, I lost my job 3 weeks ago to climate as it is & experience is experience, but really! £6 P/H...I'm Level 2 into Level 3, 2330 with a years experience as a Mate.

Would you take him up? Or am I quite right in thinking here we go, another cheap rate for a days graft...& no wonder things are in a mess.

Seems to be diffence of opinion on here...those willing to work for low rates or free for experience and those bemoaning the pay scales. I know we are in a recession and people (including myself) have lost jobs, but the continuation of selling yourself short is never going to help matters improve.

I've invested best part of £3.5k and not mentioning the time I will not get back spent on studying to get "Industry recognised qualies"...

So where is the Industry recognised pay?? Maybe I'm being too idealistic?

The money isn't all that great but as others have said Xmas is about a month off and you might need some beer money.

As it is only 4 days work, I would suggest you say to the guy this is a loss leader rate so he can see what you are about, and in the future your rate is XYZ £'s an hour

Richard

Ater being out of work for 9 months I have been working in a non skilled job for past 2 months earning £5.80 per hr, I have seen sparks jobs locally for £6 and £7 per hr which is an insult to any real spark. I am happier where I am at the moment than sparkin for that kind of money.

Your obviously not short of cash then bud!! :D

No seriously tho, its all down to personal situations at the end of the day. Im sure there are some around who would jump at the opportunity but if you dont need the money then fair enough.

Just remember it MIGHT be a foot in the door somewhere so dont shoot yourself in the foot. And 200 quid is ALWAYS better than Jeremy ******* Kyle whatever industry you're in!!

except now you are not gaining any electrical installation etc etc experiance so when things pick up youre much less likely to get the better paying work. be positive and keep being willing. it will improve again its only a cycle (easy to say i know)

these sorts of rates of pay scare the **** out of me
how is a spark who has been on jib rate or similar for the last god knows how long meant to now survive on 6-7 quid an hour
people are getting turned over and there is nothing they can do:mad::mad::mad:

So what are you suggesting people without a job actually do??

Sit at home watching the bills pile up waiting for the perfect job with high morals??

Sorry to be a bit sarcastic but the country being a state is big Gordans fault, not the fault of employers. I agree it is absolutely bull**** what some companies are offering, but trainees arent to blame.
