Seems like REAL might be busy - just received this email.

"Anglian Windows have recently secured membership of REAL and are looking to launch a solar PV business. We have plans to sell and install up to 10,000 panels on domestic roofs in 2013 ..."

At say 250W a panel @ 3kWp average that's about 800 homes.

oh arse.

we're currently assisting a former customer of the b******rds also known as solar energy savings, and I'm astounded by the levels of incompetence and over pricing on all aspects of the sales and design side of the installation.

the actual electrical work etc was neat enough, but they forgot to tell the customer about the chimney that shades the system for half the day or include any shading in the sap calcs, undersized the inverter so badly that it's probably losing 10% output, and put a 300% mark up on the system, or double what we'd have charged for the cheapest kit on the market.

Oh yeah, and they didn't send the EPC for a system installed in May until August, so she missed the 21p FIT rate a BG sent the form back.

According to the letter from the administrator of SES, they had £1.5 million or so in the bank when they went into adminstration... one gravy train well and truly sucked dry I think.

I loathe these sorts of shiny suited scum.

@GavinA

Not sure it's the same people, though I can't find Anglian Windows or Angilan Building Products listed either on the MCS or REAL websites !!! The Anglian Homes website makes it appear as though they've been selling Solar PV for a while....

Anglian have - they were one of the companies that came out worst in the which report last year, but which failed to notice they weren't REAL members or warn their membership about this practice of marketing companies flogging PV systems without needing to obey REAL rules, then subbing the work out to an MCS company.

REAL and MCS have tightened up their rules recently, which will be why Anglian are going for REAL membership.

They're a different company to SES, but same sort of sales first mentality IMO.

Great, if they think there is that level of demand that's fantastic. I'm sure when the customers make an informed discussion with other Pv installers quotes they will see what they really are.

Tesco do ALL their trading through ENACT excpet lead generation, qualification, appointments etc, actual appointment is by a local MCS registered firm, quote by enact (using tesco branding)
Enact have multiple divisions so they are playing a bit of a game. (Ring them up, pretend to be a customer and ask them what company they are! they get it wrong 75% of the time)

And that’s why MCS / REAL don't work! I dropped PV in June and don't regret it or miss it but have been asked my opinion on a few quotes from different clients of mine. Two are from companies not on the MCS/REAL list so not an accredited installer and another who’s price for 3Kw was £12K. (Price received this month)
There is no policing of the scheme other than bashing the smaller company as they don’t have the time or money to fight the case. Until there is a true governing body with teeth and a set of kahunas the customer is ultimately paying the price. MCS and REAL just aren't worth it.

Here's Anglia's sales predictions for next year (# of panels)

That pick up will either be due to marketing and sales or customer led demand, I reckon they believe people will have forgotten / not know about 43p by the middle of next year, hence the growth.

Also the fact that energy prices would have increased by another 10% ! People will be maxing out how many panels they can fit, both on roof, sheds, ground the lot ! Plus increased planning requirement on new builds !! Looking forward to an interesting year in a maturer industry post barkergate !
