I've just replaced the indicators on my VTX1300 and one doesn't seem to work. Everything was working before I swapped them over from globe type to LED. The front indicator worked when I first connected it, but I can't get it to work now. Is there a trick to the wiring?

You need to order a set of load resistors to install across the feed wires to each indicator lamp.

Yes, normally come with the kit.
If it is just one swap it with one that works and vice verse to prove unit and wiring.

No, my mate has an MOT garage and it is a failure on certain years if they do not have Hazards , I do the love jobs lol.
He has is own Norton Commando that he is renovating just now from scratch,
I am going to do the wiring for him. Straight forward though , new harnesses and switches ect.
The bike has been in his family since new, but stood in a garage for years and years.

I used to go to the speedway though every week when I was young . Newcastle Diamonds and Berwick Bandits. This was in the sixties and seventies in the days of Ivan Mauger and Anders Michenek. Ole Olsen would guest ride sometimes.
A friend of mine was Scottish champion trial bike winner years ago too.
I used to go to those also.

Loudest bike I've ever heard was a 1960s speedway bike. Saw it at the BMF show a few years ago. Literally made your ears hurt even with your hands over them.

The smell of the start was amazing , as you say the noise was overpowering .
They have some bottle too, Ivan Mauger broke his foot on the first outing of the meeting , had it strapped up and when on to win the session, Bearing in mind the foot is on the ground a lot of the time. He was something to watch. One of the all time greats.

I've got an Armstrong - the front brake on that is very similar!!

I switched my indicators on my car to LED and they flashed a million miles per hour so had to install some sort of transistor in the wiring loop to each indicator and it fixed it.

Is that something similar to what's suggested above?

(Check me out - doing a bit of electrics!!!! lol!!!!)

Yes the flash rate is dependent on the load of the flasher unit , so the load on a standard flasher has to mimicked by a resistor to give the correct flash rate for the MOT, between 60 and 120 flashes per minute.

With Motorcycles, in my experience, you only need the one ballast resistor, rather than four.

I learnt to ride on one!! Then a few years later bought one as a winter hack as I had a few spares, wish I hand't have sold it now...

Those front brakes are terrible... :D

I have done a bit on Jawa and Weslake units, and a fella i shoot with, has an engineering set-up,to renovate heads and barrels, after some pretty damaging bursts.

A pal i have known for years, and had a long-standing business connection with, ended up owning Belle Vue,and headed operations there, until it's refurb shananigins ended somewhat trickily.....

My first ever go on a speedway bike, was only engineered, after the lad who owned the bike, had taken me out in the rain, round a large, quiet roundabout,in Trafford Park,in me SDi V8 :)

He had me maintaining drift, until i could manage six full circuits, without error, steering only with the throttle....It was worth goosing a pair of Grand Prix S tyres,so i could get on a dirt oval, and end up deaf and dusty:kissing:

He May of known a good friend of mine who is heavily connected with speedway , particularly Berwick Bandits, He was well connected with top riders and introduced a lot of riders into the sport.
Sadly ill health has caught up with him , but he gave a lot to the sport.
You have led an enviable life . I take my hat off to you. :)

Thank you,fellow engineer:neutral:
The gentleman concerned,remains a friend,and someone i have learnt plenty from...in business,he was brutal....retired,now.

He did some racing, late fifties, early sixties, and remained a fan, until he bought in to the Belle Vue aces, overseeing it's refurb.....which perhaps did not go as smoothly as he'd hoped.

I've been fortunate to race, ride and pilot, most man-made contraptions...trials,motocross,road,helicopters,jet-skis and the biggest plant in this country....but the one which i never gained any discernible skill at,whatsoever, was horses:oops: a great deal of me pals are in that job...show-jumping,trotting,etc,they all have tried to get me involved...i appear to be instruct-proof:(
