had someone today said there mortorised valve has gone 2nd time in a year.... ive never looked at 1 is this common which i doubt so any input will help me . could i just replace like for like no probs?

If they are repeatedly failing it may be because the they are not up to the job they are doing, you havent specified what the valve is for, common sense would say it should last longer than a year especially if its happened twice so you need to check the bumf it came with or download it and make sure its working within all it parameters i.e. Temp, voltage, pressure etc etc ..... i assume its opening up to let a fluid through check their isnt any contaminants building up and blocking the mechanics etc
