motors and starters help!

lads

i have to install and connect a sprinkler system for a bowls green its pretty basic
really i have a control unit which is a 6 channel timeswitch which open the sprinkler valves, a float switch for the water tank, and a water pump powered by a 2.2kw motor.(motor to have an independant supply and isolator)

now there is a 24v relay output from the control unit which i plan on installing a 24v/240v contactor on the other end to energise the pump but my question is will i need to install a starter for the motor, i dont have any paperwork with the pump its new and has just been installed.

are the output on the control unit volt free contacts and how many valves

there are 4 sprinkler valves and no it looks like its a direct 24v output not really a proper relay

contactors with 24v coils , no starter but you might want to consider an over load if the motor has'nt got a TOC
