HiBit of advice please. Helping a chap on a job, just a tiny little hiccup for him, he's refitting a bathroom & is removing the airing cupboard...as I have done many times, the upstairs lighting circuit has been rewired (along with rest of house 15 years ago) making crafty use if the said airing cupboard.Niwt wrong with that. However the cable must now be extended by about 1 metre, and buried in the wall....The lighting circuit is not 30mA protected (although there is an upfront 100mA but hey ho). My question is, am I obliged to protect this 'moving' cable with the aforementioned 30mA RCD?

MWC does say the installation does not impair the safety of existing, might be a get out. But no real alternative if you keep to the regs.
Perhaps there is another (non RCD) circuit where you could "repair" the damaged cable and use that bit for your work!:lipsrsealed2:

Richard is that on a schemes MEIWC as I never noticed that on the generic ones from the Book
No this is the statement in the model forms in BGB/BRB. It does continue to say that it is designed constructed I & T to BS7671 and complies with BS7671, which is a bit of a let down.
I think they may be trying to cover work above BS7671 standard not being downgraded.
