Moving electric oven switch

Hi Everyone,

As I want to move my electrical oven switch about 18 '' across a plasterboard wall I would like to know how to make a safe wire connection so that I can extend the cable. Is there a junction box for this job ?

To be honest it would be better if you could pull the cable out and re run it rather that extend it. The real trouble with this is unless the cable runs horizontal to the existing switch, by extending it and moving it "over" 18" you take the very real risk of having a part of the cable outside of a recognised zone.

If its not possible to get under the floor above to pull the cable back, then you could take it back to with 150mm of the wall and ceiling join then run it across 18 inches then chase back down to the new position. This will also keep the cable in safe zones.

As for joining new to old, in this situation I tend to always use crimps the heatshrink.
