There's a few jobs around here for MQB class 2 sparks. I know this is in the mines, but what is involved in this training, and where can you do it? I did a quick google search but all in came up with were job results, not anything about where you can do the training.

Pretty much, you cant mate.

I looked into it a long time ago and unless you served an apprenticeship with a mining company as a mine spark you cant gain the MQB sparks quals. Companies aren't interested in taking on a 'spark' without any mine experience either.

There is an mining NVQ around, don't know its name or what it gets you though.

As far as I know you will only get the training in house with in Mining and Quarrying companies as you are passed as competent by the mine/quarry manager.

But I’m going back 40 years.

ok, cheers for clarifying that. Out of interest, a guy I work with thinks he's off to Australia to work in the mines. He's only a JIB spark and not even that good either. Is he dreaming? I know it's harder to be a spark in Aus than here, ie you have to be qualified, not just competent, and have a license. I would imagine its the same with the mines thingy as here then?
