I am currently working as a apprentice/mate for someone, and he is thinking about joining this mrE franchise, im a little unsure what he will even get for his money!
Work is a little quiet atm is why hes pondering this.

Or if its worth it? I think he could personally do it himself without, these taking cuts!

Wondering if anyone is with these or has heard good things? Only read bad things online, but the answers I read are a little dated
So I want to know recent queries about this buisness, they're very up front with questions when asked to be fair.
But im just wary for my employer due to large costs!

So if heard of anything please post!

Looks good all you have to do is give them £18,000 and you do not need to be a election as it all about management, but if your a election and want to go self employed they are the people for you, look on there main website and all electionsare part P and 17th so no 5wws on books and they have got NICEIC logo so must be well good, tell your boss to give me the £18,000 and he can use my letterhead and have all the jobs I get between 5pm & 8am

Or electrician even?

£18,000? Is someone having a laugh? What do you think he could achieve with an injection of that amount into HIS BUSINESS?
The guy must need his head examined.

Just because they have part p and 17th edition doesn't mean they are not Electrical Trainee's! Seems a lot of outlay for very little gain certainly until the client base is built which you could be doing yourselves.

Spell thing on the iPhone always makes me look thick or is it just my spelling
£18,000 plus the vat

Yeah I know this is exactly what iv said to him, think finally getting through about building up the clintell ourselves.
And invest that money he wants to spend in the buisness elsewhere that would be far better.

For 18k + the raggy mat he could leaflet drop every home and business within a hell of a radius. Launch a radio ad campaign, Have an internet competition to win a new CU, bloody all kinds could be done with it.
He must be mad to be prepared to buy someone's empty promises. Ask him why he thinks this Mr Electric is selling franchises? Surely if his business model is so successful he'd be doing it himself and keeping the whole pie rather than giving bits of it away.

Franchises are a bit like a ponzy scheme except the main loser will be the franchise "holder".

Just imagine what a start up company could do with that money - and remember buying a "name" doesn't mean you will be guaranteed any business, sure you may get the odd enquiry because the name may be recognised, but I doubt it'll go any way towards earning you a living.

Remember someone I worked with in a shipyard taking out a similar franchise met him about 12 months later he was at his wits end as they hadn't come across with the work they promised and where sending him threatening letters about commission he owed them he was a nervious wreck thinking he was going to lose his house.

He was told to call their bluff and tell them he was going to sue them for not coming up with the work that they promised they backed off in the end and got his money back when a nice solicitors letter dropped through their letterbox.

Yeah totally agree, I know what he really wants to do is expand..
and im trying to help him do that but I'm fairly unsure on where to tell where to start to!
But I have suggested website, leftlets posting etc
but he's cautious aswell so doesn't know whos best to go to for a website and logo making, sign writing all the usual bits.
he's been in the industry a while now but just due to word of mouth, and now wants to obviously get bigger.
but I think I have put him off the idea of franchising now but wants my help of what step to take next!

Google site builders, there's millions out there, build him a FB page for his business, draw a logo for him, I know a place where you can get 5k leaflets A6 size for £50 ish but you have to do most of the work so take a look at local printers because one round the corner from us will do the same amount for >£200 and that's including the donkey work, look at mugs for give aways, guerilla marketing is always a good thing (Slipping leaflets inside light fitting boxes in the sheds)
Honestly mate there's a shed load of things that can be done which will cost a lot less than 18k and will give a better return. You say he's cautious but is prepared to spunk away that amount on an empty promise.....aye, sounds like it.

For eighteen grand your gaffer could throw one hell of a forum Christmas party. Can you imagine all the contacts he would make while we were having a good knees up. Just an idea! Let us know what he thinks!:D
