Multi Function Tester

Hi all newbie here, im a nearly qualified electrician and im looking for my first mft, Due to using them at college and by everyone on here recomending them i have decided on a Megger, but the question is do i wait 3-4 weeks for the new 1720 or just get the old 1552/1553, i can also save myself £250-£300 buy buying the 1553 (found someone willing to sale me one for £450. please any help would be appreciated

Cant argue with telectrix, 1, cos he's me mate, and 2 i have never used a megger. I have a Fluke myself. if this is your first step into the MFT world, just be a bit wary of paying top money for top kit that has all the bells and whistles which due to your lack of experience may be a waste of money if you dont use them all. I cant knock megger, and i have never heard anything bad ( i have a megger multimeter), but get one that is easy to use with just the basic requirements, save yourself some cash and upgrade as you need to. Just my advice, the rest is up to you.

only if you want it to make the tea while printing off your cert. do you need to spend on the 17whatever. anyway, it's new, it'll go wrong, nobody else will have one, so it'll be nicked. 1552/1553 dog's nuts. be even cheaper now the new model is out. btw, sirkit, on the fluke, what type of plug is on the 3 lead combo. is it IEC like seaward?

Get a few spare batterys to carry as they love them!!!

I use the 1552 and its a good bit of kit IMO.

so's mine . except its got a fault on the continuity, reads high. so i have to use my low ohms meter for R1 R2 etc. pain in the butt.

The plug on the Fluke is a standard plug, but the ends that go into the tester are individual, same as for the test probes, there is no IEC socket on it.

yes its callibratrated, and comes with the usuall leads ect, was just going to get the 1552 but got the 1553 cheaper, dont know if i will use the bluetooth but hey its there if i want to.

I had a fault with the continuity and it was where the test leads plug into the side the connectors can get dirt in as mine had so cleaned them out with alcohol and small cotton bud. I spoke to one of the guys at ISSWWW in the tech dept who was spot on.

He did mention if the fault did not go away they would replace the connectors FOC as its under 3 years old and bought from them.!!!
