About to take the plunge and buy my first multifunction tester
I was drawn to the Megger 1720 but have read a load of posts listing problems with the new 1700 series....... have Megger sorted this out or are you still finding problems??

Doesn't seem to be any major problems with the Fluke 1653B perhaps this would be the better bet???

I used the individual Robin instruments on my course does anyone have some advice on whether the Megger or Fluke is easier to use??

This is my first post so many thanks in advance for any help you can offer

Don

i find the megger is easiest to use, i have a 1552, so can't really comment on the 1700 series. one thing i like about the megger is that you don't have to null leads except for continuity testing.

The former issues with the Megger 17xx series MFTs have all been sorted since firmware update 2.01, apart from the 2 wire No-trip loop test which still gives variable results even with firmware update 2.05, however it's getting better with each update, and you don't need to use it anyway because the 3 wire No-trip loop test works fine.

Yep agree with telectrix I have a 1553 which is the bluetooth version of the 1552 and I dont even use this function so money wasted I like the megger but dont like the carry case so I spent ÂŁ28 on a Fluke case and now I am happy.

Next time I buy a tester it will be a metrel but in saying that my 2 digital flukes are 25-30 years old mains tester 30yo

every metrel ive used has given random results, megga or fluke for me, (i have a fluke atm cos i bid sniped it on ebay on the cheap)

I have a megger 1700 series.

I am currently selling the megger and buying a fluke 1654b

Only had the megger for 6 months, in my opinion it's the worst tester I have ever purchased.

I have always bought megger's in the past, never again.

I used the individual Robin instruments on my course does anyone have some advice on whether the Megger or Fluke is easier to use??

DGf If you are used to the individual instruments, take my advise and leave those multi function contraptions well alone
You are already used to the superior testing tools, why downgrade to the all singing all dancing garbage
:)

Ps I have an MFT in my shed and its staying there, its hardly used and hopefully will not need to be again, its there just in case my real meters play up
:devil2:
