I currently have an extension lead running from the house to a shed, the reel has 4 plugs on it. My question is, is it safe to plug a multiplug in to it as I need a couple of extra sockets, I'm guessing not.

It depends what the extra points will be used for.

I assume the existing lead still has a plug on it with a 13A fuse, and hasn’t been cut off and hard wired directly into the consumer unit or anything daft like that.

Some of these reels are only rated at 10A and should only have a 10A fuse fitted.

If the plugs are just for lights, battery chargers etc, then it should be fine.
Anything heavy, like a kettle, power tools, or a heater will pop the plug top fuse.

If you have a slightly cheaply made extension lead, then any excess load may melt the plastic before popping the fuse.
Not meaning to alarm you, but all to easy to overload these things.

Also, the extension lead should be FULLY UNWOUND
it is not ideal but if you are sure you are not overloading it, you should be ok.
