How would you best explain mutual detrimental influence and what would be the best way to prevent it for reg 132.11 p18. I know it be by providing mechanical protection on all circuits. But still am not fully sure of the concept of Mutual Detrimental Influence.

Does any one have any examples of Mutual Detrimental Influence

Regulation 132.11 and further in Section 515 of BS 7671 provides that the electrical installation ,including the equipment, shall be selected and installed to avoid any harmful influence between the electrical installation and non - electrical installations. Also included is any harmful influences between electrical installations of different voltages and containing any electromagnetic influences.

Yeah thanks for the reply, but the bit I don't get is the non electrical mutual influence? unless it means a person or livestock.

basically, no detrimental influence of electrical installation and other non-electrical installations means , in other words, ourwork should not adversly affect the work of other work, e.g . plumbiung, joinery, building work, gas, etc.etc. and vice versa

Another terminology thing that is common sense but when read you think what are they getting at. lol cheers for spelling it out for me.

" It should be verified that no destructive, damaging or harmful effects have occured, are actually occurring, or are likely to occur, because of the proximity of any part of the electrical installation to non-electrical or other influences. For example, it should be checked that any heat, steam, smoke, fumes or condensation is not likely to damage the electrical installation, or that electrolytic corrosion is not likely to occur between dissimilar metal parts of the electrical installation and the building structure or mechanical plant which are in contact with each other in damp situations such as outdoors ".

" Also where the equipment or wiring of an electrical installation is in the vicinity of a communication or a control system, it should be checked that the relevant electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements have been complied with so that one system will not cause interference to the other. Regulations 515.3.1 & 515.3.2 refer ".

I copied that from a guidance book.

In addition I believe the presence of wiring in lift shafts other than that associated with the lift itself falls loosely under this heading.

put in a nutshell, don't put sand in the platerers finish as long as he don't fill our boxes

maybe not so common a sense at all lenny. nice one so thats pretty much all in section 1 and 5. What guide book you refer just out of interest?

I was looking at my mates mafia books the other day and they seem clear and well laid out from what I seen.
