Hi all,

I'm recently qualified and starting to dip my toe into the domestic side of things. I have a question regarding MWC and testing.

How would you generally proceed if for example a client wants a light fitting replaced in their porch or a socket replacing in their front room, but don't really want you removing bulbs all over the house or unplugging everything to do the tests required by the MWC?

I had to explain to a client who questioned this over the weekend and came here to ask advice from more experienced sparks.

Thanks

if you are changing a fitting, like for like, and not modifying the circuit, there is no need for testing or MWC. however it woulde be good practice to IR and Zs test the circuit to ensure compliance.

unless of course you are fitting, say , an RCD, and thus modifying the circuit, in which case you must record readings for the modified circuit on MWC.

IR test to 612.3.2 250 volt Earth to L/N

But you do know that replacement of accessories does not require a MEIWC to be issued. So you could to look professional issue one for changing that light.

EFLI can leave things plugged in

Earth continuity is a tick so can be done R2 with a wander to lead to confirm .

Polarity again a tick so you visually check your connections.
