I bought one of these a few weeks ago from an online company (who will remain unnamed for the time being) and i was using as normal to test a circuit and the handle started melting.

The company have said they won't give me a refund, and will only exchange it for another one?

But before i do this i want to know if anyone else who owns one of these has had this kind of problem?

Downright dangerous if you ask me.....

Throw it in the bin, don't get a replacement.
Buy a Fluke tester and a decent terminal screwdriver.

Yeah, i think i might end up doing that, It was only a few quid, it's just annoying because it still cost money and it could have been a nasty shock.....which i've had a few of over the years!

if you do get a replacement, take the innards out and just use it for marking holes

i use my neon drive to poke holes for spot lights and it backs up as a non insu screwy when needed! i.e when pat tetsing handy for taking plus apart!

Bin it and replace it with an approved 2 pole voltage detector and proving unit if your an aspiring electrician. If your a DIYer a volt-stick might be more suitable and cheaper. You have just learnt a valuable lesson the hard way.

Mate, there was a discussion on Neon drivers on this forum earlier this week. There only good for one thing, holes in plaster board.
