Ok - call me an idiot - I appear to deserve it!

I'm going on holiday in a week and have my MCS inspection the first working day after we get back. We're busier than we've been since the madness of DEC 2011 and our MCS ..... well when we weren't getting much work we were going to finish with it, so lets say it's a bit out of date. So I needed some help ... quick.

So I coughed up ÂŁ400 for EASY MCS to do all the work for me - happy in the knowledge that I wouldn't have to worry and could carry on generating work to pay for it. WRONG.

I agree when I bought it that the hard copies of everything would be available in 4/5 working days, was then told it would be 10. If anyone ever answers the phone they rarely know the answer to anything. I was promised online access to everything including document templates by last Tuesday. I eventually got it on Monday morning, despite telling them that I'd need to adjust it to fit into our database. I was given the name of my "mentor" but no contact details. I emailed a list of questions on Sunday to my QMS "Designer" who unfortunately couldn't answer any of my questions. I was referred back to the "mentor" for whom I had no contact details with the added information he was on holiday until Wed. It's ok though I'll get another of the "mentors" to give you a call as soon as they are free - better than nothing I thought - except I'm still waiting.

Meanwhile I've been going through the documentation, to be fair some of it is ok. Layout ad design aren't to my taste but as I'm not going to look at it too often I'm not really too concerned. However, if they are suggesting that the handover certificate has the product mcs number on it then the form should be laid out to take that information. It isn't. The form also suggests that Predicted System Performance is taken from SAP 2009. There is something random called an invoice form, it looks as though this is something that you send to a wholesaler with a list of product numbers, prices etc - it looks very similar to the performa you'd get from a wholesaler except it cites that full payment is due before delivery.

There are loads of other bits like this and of course no-one to even give a vague explanation of what it's for - however here's the issue, you're advised not to change the forms that they have created because they are obviously listed in the hard copies of everything being sent to you - that you haven't seen. There are forms that you have no need for if you're using a database ie customer enquiry form, the enquiry form goes straight onto the database, if you remove it the hard copies aren't compatible.

Do I sound frustrated? ÂŁ400 would have got us overt o Spain for a week in out apartment - I'd rather have spent it on that!

pah - I paid ÂŁ700 for a company like that to do risk assessment stuff for us because some git of a client demanded it be done by someone who'd got the correct bit of paper.

their stuff was so bad we had to rewrite it using the stuff I'd already written, and was the client happy....... no, we'd taken too long so they never got back to us.

I allocate the day before to rejig the paperwork, then have someone in the office to print out / type up anything that's missing while the assessor is assessing us on the day, so all non-conformaties get sorted out on the day now.

I must remember to have our 4 quarterly meetings minutes written up some time soon... ;)

I think most of us are in the same boat.

We added Thermal, Biomass and Heat Pumps to our qualifications so because of the extension of scope didn;t want the hassle of creating my own check list procedures and reconned that ÂŁ150 from MCS Made Easy , with forever updates and extension to include PAS2030 would be money well spent .......

Well first look it refers to REAL Assurance not RECC, second look can't find any 'process control' procedures, i.e checks on the design steps , 3rd look Biomass and Heat Pump quotes are just copies of the PV quotes forms with no mention of fuel usage, heat losses, etc etc.

...... Perhaps we should all have a nice bonfire - and put Barking on top as the 'Guy'

Quick update - refund agreed today. Let down on all promises, made a formal complaint and copied NICEIC in after a chat with them (they recommend Easy MCS) it's left me further back than I was because I'd done 2 quotes using the new templates but NICEIC have re-scheduled our visit so I'll put everything right over Christmas.

Good to hear that they refunded, though shame as I know it has probably cost more to put it right than buy it in the first place.

I'm stealing bits from the one I've got - emailed them a week ago about the errors / incorrect bits -- no response yet this seems to be the norm...

I have heard good reports about paperclip though... perhaps others that have used it could comment

My "EASY" MCS Experience

I have been using paper lol for a while and I actually like it ( when they stop tweaking things that don't require it) I can produce decent looking quotes in minutes, I cannot finish the job unless I have covered all elements such as roof survey, inverter calcs Etc so I can't possibly miss anything out! Then the job is archived, everything such as publications are updated automatically so I literally have to do nothing!
SRE It's worth a trial and see what you think! No more piles of paperwork!

I'm beginning to think I smell - 2 emails to Paperclip - still waiting. Think I'll just have to grit my teeth, go through all my original stuff and just update that. Then explain to my assessor about how I've tried to work with the systems they recommend but have failed miserably. Maybe he'll take pity on me - haha.

dear ground, please swallow me up, MCS assessment tomorrow and everything's changed since last year.

yep - I'd realised the solar PV stuff had changed significantly, but hadn't realised that the solar water heating side of things had also changed completely at the back end of last year.

I'm not sure how we're meant to show compliance with the new commissioning cert etc when we've not done a swh system since this all changed.

Non conformities ahoy... guess that'll be my weekend sorting that out or something.

hasn't helped that we were really busy in the run up to the new year, still are, and I was ill last week.

Good luck - look forward to hearing about it all! I think I'm just going to take a hit with ncs rather than kill myself to be ready for our inspection in Feb. After all there's no point complying if we have no business, so continuing to generate the business has to be the main priority.
