Well what a day..

Got to my job today, got all my kit out ready for a first fix, walked into the building and started to move all the junk out my way in the room I was in, lifted up a light weight timber door frame and then my back just went 'ping'!!

I was doubled over and just could not stand up with my back straight.

Someone got me a seat to sit on, I sat there for almost an hour then the other trades come in for a tea brake and said how pale I looked, my body was shaking all over, I was dripping in sweat and my right side of my back felt very very warm. I didn't know it but an ambulance was called as the other blokes were very concerned for me.

I got wheeled out the site and took to the local hospital, first thing I needed to do was pee! In a pot off the side of the bed.. Pain relief soon sorted me out.

So apart from getting nothing done and loosing a days pay the specialist told me not to work for a minimum of a week.

Turned out to be muscle spasm.

Quite an embarrassing day really.

I can't afford to be I'll when self employed.

you got to take the week off. if you don't you may end up with the next 5 years off. take care of yourself. better to lose a week's work than your health.

I know your right, and if I'm not upto it Monday I won't go anywhere.

My back gave way for the first time prob 8 years ago. Since then I've had problems with my back a couple of times each year, but this has been the worst it's ever been.

Can't keep going on like this through my working life..

Same thing happened to me Christmas Day, was in agony for 4 days solid even with the horse pills wife got from work (NHS). Managed to get to see a physio on New Years Eve, after about an hour and a half of "manipulation" things were better.

Plenty of stretching and a monthly visit to physio is the way forward I think.

Put it down to years of wear & tear through crawling round peoples lofts and being cramped up under stairs.

Take care buddy, do not attempt to do too much too soon.

Regards WA

Hope you're better soon, but don't work on it until you are. My uncle ended up with 3 discs removed and all sorts of trouble as he always just worked through the pain and ignored advice. Now sometimes he has to crawl to answer his door, can't work anymore and in and out of hospital every year. You only get one spine, and rarely second chances once the damage is done. Take it easy for a bit. :)

glad your ok mate. i suffered with trapped nerves in my neck years ago after a bad car accident. i suffered for a few years and various physios could not do the trick. i went to the hospital for something else and the specialist commented on my posture as i looked like a robot walking around. she said picked the phone up and called a physio in. as a facour to her he said he would see me and gave me a good old stretching. he said it would hurt and may not work for a few days. i got up off the bed and it was like all my crimbos had come at once. from it going every other week its down to once a year now and not half as bad when it does. take the time off mate. as said 5 days is better than longer. the dr`s don`t just say it for fun mate.

Just spotted you post hope your better mate , i sypathise with you as im a long suffering back spasum aching guy can move to good in the morning but im ok once i get going just every so often it sizes up just take it easy mate you ll be fine

I'm better now, I have a better understanding of what's happening now I've seen the physio.

One of my back muscles are harder than the other, through the working day this muscles gets harder and harder to the point where it can't take it and it locks up preventing me from moving,

I've been told to take more rests throughout the day to relax the muscle after I've done some grafting rather than just fighting through it like I usually do. As I will do more harm
