A few forums I have seen have something written into the code so that if you swear, it replaces that swear word with another word. Like if you said the F word, it would say 'flipping' or even something totally irrelevant like 'chair' or 'barnsley'. If you said the C word, it would say 'ladygarden' or something.

Seeing as rude words are the hot topic at the moment, was just wondering if this was something that could be implemented on here, so that if someone does swear,h it isn't a problem and doesnt cause arguments.

it would be a good idea but some how known my luck i would manage to beat the system and get slapped wrists again!! think i used up all my strikes recently on one post!! lol... got to be on best foxtrotting behaviour as to not upset dave!! :( he owns the big red button called "delete" dont fancy having to go to screwfix...! something in the water on that forum!

Is it really that difficult to not swear..?

Swearing in conversations ..one to one then fair enough the odd word could slip out, but on a forum etc , you have to actually type the word in first, so you have time to think..

Other forums might let you swear etc but not on here..so its simples really..;)

totally agee with you Dave, never sworn in my Life. Whats happning with the email notifications ?

I am unsure that I agree, I believe that swearing is an expression that sometimes is apropriate?

I do believe that excessive swearing is unnecessary, rude and and indication of poor vocabulary, however I think it has its place!

I understand that the rules on here are no swearing and do my best to comply, however all words in common use are found in the english oxford dictionary and perhaps we are being a bit over the top, after all this is a forum for electricians, not nuns or virgins and we hear expletives all day long on site.

Just my thoughts, I know I have got away with a few in the past, so perhaps we are being a little lenient!

James..

This forum is viewed by the public.. hence we can get fined for minors viewing certain things..

The rules are there for all to follow, if any member does not agree with these rules, then there are other sparky forums for you to use.

Like i have already said the sparky pub is for the tradesmen and your forum to let steam off in..

I will say it again.. No swearing full stop in the publicly viewed forums.

This is getting tiresome repeating again and again, you as members agreed to these rules when you signed up and clicked i agree.

I did not intend to critisise in any way, I find this forum excellent, I do however believe the minors could probably teach us a few new swear words! (My 2yr old called me a smelly bum 2 mins ago)

As you say, keep it in the pub, just feel we may lose a few good contributors allong the way if we are too strict!

my opinion is that everyone swears in the spur of the moment, but to actually want to write it down in a normal conversation is not on, can people not express what they want with out swearing.

I was brought up not dragged up..

PS this is not pointed at anyone just my opinion

Ok.

I cant believe that this is STILL a problem.

Let me put it like this.

There will be NO swearing in the public forums.

The pub has been specifically set up so that if you wanted to vent your spleen about anything, then that is the place to do it.

Its really not that hard to avoid typing swear words whether they are in the dictionary or not.

IT IS offensive to many people.

Infractions and bans will be dished out if ANY member decides that they are exempt from this rule.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
