Hi there. I am planning to retrain in order to become an electrician, likely going back to the UK for study. Could someone please tell me what courses I have to do?

Also, I have been reading a lot of stuff online and am wondering what's true and what's not. For example, I have been reading that there is a massive shortage of electricians both here and abroad. Is this correct? I have also read that one is only allowed to do some electrician training. And that any further training can only be done if one is employed by a relevant company. Isn't this a catch-22 that one has to be an electrician in order to become an electrician?

Also, I am curious as to what tech colleges are the best for studying? It's just that I read either here or elsewhere that private training colleges were somehow dodgy and too expensive.

Thanks for any input,
Fenrir.
