Hello,

I recently wired a 240v 300w light fitting (plug and bulb end, large Edison Screw). I followed all of the instructions for screwing the individual wires into the right places, earth, neutral, live, but I forgot to switch the fitting off before I screwed the bulb in, and as my hand was in contact with the bulb base, I got a bit of a punch. I know this was a stupid thing to do as you should always make sure that wiring is not live before touching it, but I was just wondering if it is safe to use. Is it possible I have wired it wrong?

Thanks

call a sparky !!!

sounds like you got reverse polarity as you shouldn't get a shock touching the threaded part of the lamp base even if its on.

Was it turned on while you was wiring the bulb holder? How come you did that without getting a shock?
and if you wired the plug it must have been off then? Or did you plug it in after you wired the plug?
