Hi I have been reading the forum's for a few weeks now and am interested in your opinions.
I joined the Royal Navy in 79 as what was then an OEM ordenance electrical mechanic (Weapons and electrics) which then became an MEM(L) 6 months later which meant my main job was Heavy and Domestic electrics. I took various courses and exams throughout my career and at the end was teaching electrics to the new entries. I left in 98 with loads of experience and not one bit of paper for use in Civvy street. I changed jobs into IT (seemed that there wasn't a choice back then as no forums to ask about electric's and no civvy qualifications) but kept my hand in with the electrics and did the 16th and then 17th edition a couple of rewires etc to keep my hand and am currently doing the 2392-10 to bring me up to speed with the way testing is carried out in civvy street as they are different in many aspects but most give the same results.

Where would i, in your honest opinions stand in the civvy electricians world with regards to experience and competency and could i call myself an "electrician" as seeing the comments left on here about Electrical Trainee wonders etc

I have seen numerous threads on here that mention you should take this course or that course to stand any chance of working in the industry but it seems to mean that i would have to re-train on what i already know?

Your comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Your nothing like a Electrical Trainee!! lol I'm amazed that any qualifications you obtained in the forces can't be converted to civvy street equivalents....

PM Durhamsparky, he will have a lot more information/advise for you than most here, as he is also ex navy...
